The phone rang, waking the sysadmin.
"We need to take down the system," the new operator said.
"Notify the users," the sysadmin replied, yawning.
"How do I do that?"
"The utility is called 'wall'. Read the manpage," he said blearily. "I'll be there in ten."

He watched her across the room. Her smile lit up the party. Her #animated features were a delight. Small changes of expression, a raised eyebrow or curl of the lip, added to her natural beauty & charm. She caught him looking & he glanced down quickly at his empty glass.

The taxi deposited Mary at 42nd & Broadway. She paid the driver & emerged into sleet, white pellets stark against her #plain charcoal-gray suit. As she went through the revolving entrance, she transformed into a flowing gown of scarlet, more appropriate to the venue.

"Lady Momoire," the Royal Envoy said, with a bow. "You're ravishing."
"You're unusually #oblique tonight, Sir Revin" she said, offering her hand. "Can't you say what you mean more directly."

After weeks, he heard their cries. He waited for hours until she left to hunt, then ran up, grabbed a #fledgling, & tucked it in into his vest. Later, at his campfire, he cooed & fed the dragonling bits of meat, while the mother razed the town looking for her lost baby.

"I really did not break it this morning."
"You can't even keep a straight face."
"Well, I didn't break it TODAY."

#Diffuse light filtered down to the forest floor leaving shifting dappled shadows as a breeze stirred the new leaves in the canopy. I crouched under a mountain laurel laden with pink blossoms. I heard a foot fall. And then another, crunching through the leaf litter.

"What's got you in a panic?" I asked.
"See that guy? If he recognizes me, we're dead."
The guy turned & looked straight at us. As he turned, I climbed into his lap, #balanced on his knee, & kissed him on the mouth.
