For reasons, I was looking at the etymology for baka (馬鹿) and found this: "Unbo Irohashū (運歩色葉集) dictionary, which glosses baka 馬鹿 as meaning "point at a deer and say horse" (指鹿曰馬)."
OK, sure. But what if you point at a deer and say, "gentle forest pony"? Hmmmmm?
